AWI: British Artillerymen

Was able to finish these guys off in between work. Finally some British cannoneers for the artillery painted months ago.

They're from the IMEX 554 American Artillery set and painted up well, to the standard for the time: blue coats, red facings and white lining/turnbacks. Several of the figures are sculpted in their waistcoats, which makes for some good variety.

There's good detail on these IMEX figures which made them enjoyable and easy to paint, including the correct metal water bottle - which still makes the IMEX American Artillery set better used for the Brits - see the previous American artillerymen post for 'box swap' details - but that really is splitting hairs at this scale.

Lancer Miniatures guns from 7YW range go well with these figures.

Some construction needed for the figure damping the barrel, whose arms and damper come separately. It was a bit fiddly and the shaft was a bit fragile, but after a couple of tries, the slots on the forearms seated in the armholes on the body, with the exercise bordering on the polite side of the use of expletives scale.

More Lancer Miniatures guns from 7YW range.

So with the American brigades finished a few weeks back, that's one more thing off the list. Only the 17th light dragoons to go and a couple of command bases - already prepped and ready - and the armies will be ready for a game of Black Powder: Rebellion!.

AWI: Virginia Artillery Crew

More auxiliary units in the feverish attempt to actually get enough figures painted for a game of AWI Black Powder; some more crews for the large train of cannon painted previously.

These are the same IMEX figures as the 3rd Continental Crew painted earlier this year, but painted as Virginia continentals, as per the reference in the AWI Black Powder supplement; blue coats with red facings, waste-coats and trousers.

I like how these guys came out, even though I had to paint some of the strapping on, and the red outfits certainly go well with the barn red cannon... they should make a nice target on the table.

So that's more than enough cannoneers for a couple of brigades, its almost time to start thinking about the brits.

Forwards!

AWI: 3rd Continental Artillery Crew

A few more auxiliary troops for the Continentals in the form of some crew to man a couple of the cannons painted previously.

Have again taken the uniform from what's listed in the BP Rebellion supplement, for this organisation of artillery: black coats, red facings and lining, buff shortclothes.

The supplement summarises that Massachusetts raised the 3rd Continental Artillery circa 1779, so these guys have been included in the New England brigade.

The figures are from the IMEX 555 British Artillery set. Why? Because this set was originally produced in 1/32 scale as American artillery. For some reason IMEX swapped their sets around when producing 1/72 versions of them. After hours upon hours of reviewing contemporary pictures of these guys, I agreed with the PSR reviews and will swap the two sets back - not that you can really tell at this scale :)

Unfortunately the plastic is quite brittle and the sponge guy lost his sponge along the way, and is now holding what is commonly referred to as a 'stick' - I'll convert something at some stage to replace it. Apart from that the figures are well detailed and easy to paint.

American gunner sights down the barrel - is it any wonder I'm single I ask myself?

But with the average finish of these guys comes the realisation that, while a good workman never blames his tools, my detail brushes are well used - and I think have come into contact with superglue :o - I'm out of white undercoat, and have been scraping the bottom of my Citadel White Scar for the last week.

Lancer miniatures' and Revell plastic gun.
Its time for a supply run to my local Games Workshop!
